The Origin of Dates
Date palm trees originated thousands of years ago in the hot, arid regions of the Middle East and North Africa. Traditionally, dates are left to ripen and sun-dry naturally on the palm, preserving their flavour and extending their shelf life.
Types of Dates
Dates are classified as soft, semi-dry, or dry, based on texture and taste. Soft dates like Medjool are prized for their large size, rich caramel flavour, and premium quality, while semi-dry and dry dates offer firmer textures and longer shelf life.
Organic Farming Practices
Organic date farming is a year-round process that demands continuous care. Our growers maintain tens of thousands of palms, some reaching 65 feet in height, accessing each tree multiple times a year using specialised equipment.
The Annual Growing Cycle
The growing season begins in winter with palm preparation and continues through spring pollination. Male pollen is collected and applied to female flowers weekly, ensuring healthy fruit development and consistent yields.
Fruit Development & Protection
As the fruit forms, date bunches are carefully thinned to improve size and quality. Branches are supported, and muslin bags are placed over the dates to protect them from insects, birds, and premature falling.
Climate & Irrigation
Date palms thrive in extreme desert conditions, with summer temperatures exceeding 40°C and minimal rainfall. Daily irrigation during summer ensures healthy growth, allowing each palm to produce up to 180 kg of dates per year.
Harvest Season
Jordan’s date harvest season runs from August to November, when the fruit reaches peak ripeness. Dates are hand-harvested with care and transported immediately to the packing facility.
Storage & Preservation
After harvest, dates undergo heat fumigation and are stored at -18°C. Freezing preserves moisture, texture, and natural sweetness, ensuring premium quality until they reach the market.
Packaging
Dates are packed in food-safe, non-toxic, and recyclable packaging. Available in multiple box sizes and formats, the packaging is designed to protect freshness while clearly communicating quality and origin.
